Why? To dispel rumors, build support for the initiative, and keep the community informed.

Not asking for exact details or inaccurate information. But it would be nice to hear intentions, and possibly what the change won't include.

Communicating with your subordinates is a principle of sound leadership. We do it at every level in the chain of command. Why can't they do it as well?

IDC to URL

Postby atn » Thu Dec 01, 2011 10:27 pm

No decision has been made WRT to any type of designator merger or transition of the IDC into the URL.

The N2/N6 staff is working through a task list that was directed by the CNO. While there has been alot of talk of the IDC becoming URL - that is not a foregone conclusion - it is still in the exploration phase. The initial emphasis is to ensure that our current processes as a Corps (Accessions, Assignments, Promotions, Training and Education) more closely align with how the URL does business. One of the goals is to ensure that IDC capabilities continue to be infused with Navy and Joint warfighting. We've come a LONG way toward that goal in the past 18 months.

The advent of social media and the 24-hour news cycle does not dictate that our leadership leverage that medium for direct communications with the Wardroom. It's simply not appropriate for some discussions. Nor does the absence of a constant stream of updates indicate that there is a leadership problem. That said, we still have Chains of Command that can (and should) be used if we feel like we're in the dark on a particular issue. They have, and are hopefully providing updates such as this:

Never said there was a leadership problem....just a communication problem.

Communications are challenging, especially in an era of rapid change. We have, however, a duplex "circuit" - the opportunity to ask (i.e.pull) when things are not necessarily being pushed. The previous attachment has been produced quarterly.
