I'm curious as to why you don't want Norfolk. The detailer will be too. The detailer is there to advocate for your interests. Let him know your concerns.

Is the aversion to Norfolk related tot he type of billet you are being offered or to the location itself?

Some advice I received a long time ago was to pick a type of job first, then the location; that way at least you will enjoy what you are doing and the enjoyment will reflect in your performance etc.

To throw in my own 2 cents, if Norfolk is all that is available, just take it. It would only be 3 years (2 years if it is sea duty) then you can renegotiate for something else. Bottom line: If Norfolk is all there is, then might as well look for the positive in this and make the best of it.
