Navy IWO selection

Navy IWO selection

Postby iceman1350 » Mon Jul 21, 2008 5:51 pm

Cheers everyone,

I'm currently a civilian in college finishing up a degree in Electrical Engineering and I'm interested in applying for IWO. From what I gather it is extremely competitive and I want to see where I stand. If anyone that was a civilian and got accepted for IWO recently could post what their package looked like (ASTB, LORs, Officer Evaluations, Major, GPA, work exp., etc) I'm sure a lot of us would really appreciate it. Thanks for your time guys!

I'm good with posting the packages...however please remember this is a public forum so please remove any personal data (name, SSN etc)

This is a link to the selectee stats page at navyocs.com, there are 17 pages worth of responses to compare yourself to: Selectee Stats

There's also an IW specific listing under the IW page on that forum, though it's much smaller and not complete.

edit: But just for convenience, and to give anyone else a template:

Age at OCS: 33
TIS: 12 Years (Surface ET1(SW))
ASTB: 62 7/7/7
BS Engineering Tech. 3.2 GPA
1 NAM
1 Navy Comm
4 years sea duty
COs Rec: all 10s
Interviews: 3 Crypto (1 CDR, 1 LT, 1 ENS), 10s
1 Intel (CDR), 10s
Letters of Rec from former CO (CAPT), and 2 former DIVOs both LTs.

Applied June 03
Pro Rec and Final Select Sept 03
Graduated OCS Jul 04

Thanks Twidget, much appreciated. I've been to the stats page on navyocs, but there weren't too many IW stats, which is why I started this post. Thanks again for your post.

I'd love to post stats but that was 9 years ago so my information is quite dated. Anyone with more current info please post it.

Personal/Professional:
Age: 27

Non-prior, plenty of experience managing overly-dramatic teenagers at various restaurants

Education:
B.S. in Biochemistry, NC State University 2007, 2.91 GPA

Tests:
OAR - 63
AQR - 7
PFAR - 7
FOFAR - 8

PRT:
Outstanding Low

Interviews:
none

Other:
Package submitted Sept 07, pro-recced Oct 07. Had all A's and a few high B's in the calc/diff-eq sequence, physics, and all of my advanced biochem classes, so I think that really helped outweigh my low grades on the humanities side of my GPA. Except for art history. Loved that class:)

23 years old
Selected BDCP-IW
Non-prior
ASTB 65 7/7/7
BS Computer Science (in progress)
2.9 GPA
4 LOR's - 1 IW O4, 1 PPL Instructor, 2 HS Band Directors, 2 Work Managers

I applied January 2008 and was a non-select. Re-applied May 2009 and was pro-rec'd for BDCP-IW

I think my defining professional characteristic that helped at the board is my work experience. I have been working in a Fortune 500 (top 30 :)) company as a Analyst/Programmer since 2006 with a year break to go do an internship at a fruit company out in Silicon Valley in 2008.

I will graduate June 2010 and will attend (pending Final Select) OCS shortly after I am sure.
