AY2015-2016 PMM Program Announcement Message

Postby 12345qwert » Tue Jul 29, 2014 12:32 pm

The Navy released this year's Political Military (POL-MIL) Masters Program announcement message: (http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/r ... V14164.txt).

They updated the message (changing eligibility from O2-O3 to O3-O5) AND replaced the 2yr option with two extra 1yr slots (8 total!). Princeton, Harvard, UVA, Michigan, Tufts, University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins, and Berkeley are all schools where you could complete your Master's Degree if selected.

For what it's worth, in my opinion this is near the top of the list of "good deals" available to us as naval officers, so please think about applying or encouraging others in our community to apply.

Application process discussed here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1182&p=7010&hilit=Pol+mil&sid=814824287411a9cc8ed36f33dcb38729#p7010

What you can expect to get (as an IWO) out of one of the schools (Harvard) here: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1237&p=7402&hilit=Pol+mil&sid=814824287411a9cc8ed36f33dcb38729#p7402

If anyone is remotely thinking of applying, please shoot me a PM. Would love to help you through the long application/selection process!

Out of curiosity, did you have interaction with the officers at Kennedy school as part of the FEF program?

Yes. There were 24 National Security Fellows at HKS (these are both active duty from Army (5)/Navy (2)/Marines (2)/Air Force (3)/Coast Guard (1) AND civilian fellows from the IC (11)). In most of the strategy and foreign policy courses, you'll have at 3-5 in your class. Since they are not a part of a cohort (they have their own program removed from the rest of the school), most of the active duty officers are eager to engage with the junior officers that are in the program - so you will see them in town, at meetings, and at parties. There are also military study groups that they lead to mentor JOs - and teach the non-military students about the services. The whole program is relatively small, so there's lots of time to interact with everyone (if you chose to). Hope that helps!
