Hello, I am trying to get an idea of how good of a fit a career as an IWO might be for me.
Probably by design, but I can’t seem to find any information on the specific hats IWOs have to wear. My understanding so far is that IWOs typically manage enlisted members who carry out all aspects of gathering/exploiting networks. So, I am trying to get an idea of whether IWOs always oversea the work of others to pass information to decision makers, or if there is some point where decisions become the responsibility of the IWO.
I am very interested in a position where I have the responsibility to make decisions that have significant impacts across computer and/or human organizations. For reference, I am trying to compare this to a civilian job, where I might make engineering decisions for a software platform people depend on.
Also, is assignment to a ship or sub typically the only way IWOs go out and “see the world”? Or do other sides of the operation engage in a lot of travel?
Forgive me for any ignorance, I am hearing all sorts of exciting bits and pieces about cyber teams and operations and I am just trying to put together what little I have learned.
Thanks again.
