READING LIST

Postby jitter » Thu Dec 10, 2009 5:45 pm

In an attempt to provide the IWBC students a list of reading material that may be helpful I have created the attached. If you have suggestions please forward them my way. This list is for new officers and IWO getting ready to go to their first command. This list is mine not the Navy's (legal notice).

FYI:
1 star = good :)
2 star = great :D

The Looming Tower is a great, concise history of Al Qaeda/Bin Laden/Zawahiri.

Has anyone read Ghost Wars: The Secret History of the CIA, Afghanistan, and Bin Laden, from the Soviet Invasion to September 10, 2001? This and Looming Tower keep referring to each other in posts. Anyone read both?

I have read both and enjoyed each one immensely. The Looming Tower is an especially detailed yet concise history of Al Qaeda.

Thanks for the list. I recently redesignated to IW and after seeing the list today, I went to the library to pick up a couple of the more IW/NSA centric books. They had James Bamford's Shadow Factory but not Body of Secrets so I looked for another book, and in the new book section I found The Secret Sentry by Matthew Aid. It was just published this summer so I don't know if anyone has read it, but reading through reviews on amazon and glancing through it and 100 pages of endnotes, it appears to be well researched.

Add Viewing list

Another to add to the list of movies to watch, and I wholy agree with The Man who Never Was, is IKE, Countdown to D-Day, with Tom Selleck. A great movie that shows the intricacies involved with a major deception operation.
