INTEL WARFARE PIN

If you believe this is the case then you haven't seen the bigger NIOCs lately. NIOC Hawaii has so many JO's only a select few (usually attrites from other communities who are higher in rank because they have spent more time training on the Navy's dime) make it to legitimate division officer-type jobs. Many JO's will only experience "leadership" as it pertains to being direct support officer (a very legitimate experience) or as a watch officer without any kind of administrative responsibility (a not so legitimate experience), despite the desire of the command to expose young officers to more.

I'm going to find it pretty amusing if I need to spend afternoons driving to different commands in an attempt to find officers in different communities willing to spend the time to give me signatures. Maybe we can setup VTC's where we can scan and/or fax our PQS's back and forth and sign each other's areas off.

Grandfathering is only a minor issue in this process. Indeed, the issues involving the IDC pin truly are immense. From its origins as an Intel pin, the inclusion of four communities, each with unique ideas of what the qualification should include, make the development of an IDC pin complex. For example, a friend of mine tells me METOC leadership believes OOD and TAO qualifications should be pre-reqs for an IDC pin. I think...think...this is well beyond the scope of what most in the IW community believe a pin should include. Any thoughts?

The Metoc Officers on my ship were all allowed to qualify OOD. But none were authorized to earn their SWO pin, similar to Intel. Didn't see any stick around for TAO but there may be some.

I think part of this pre-req concept is to ensure the IDC pin isn't meaningless. Too bad OOD and TAO have nothing to do with being a good IWO, Intel, IP or Metoc Officer.

Most METOC officers are SWO (OCEANO Options) and therefore SWO qualified, while 95% of the rest are warfare qualified lat transfers from the URL.

I find required qualification in an other community's warfare areas as a pre-req to qualify in your own area to be ludicrous.

Agree. Funny thing is, TAO isn't even a pre-req for a SWO pin.

Successful Information Dominance requires specialists. I wouldn?t want a bunch of identical ?jack of all trades, master of none? types on my team, especially in the joint battlespace.

By combining the separate disciplines into one force, the walls between are hopefully broken down, allowing us to work as a combined, or joint team, allowing quick and full assess to the other communities. Making everyone the same defeats the plan. If that were the case, we would institute one new designator, but that is not what we?re talking about here.
