Re: IDC Talent Management

FLTMPS is an option for those commands interested in learning about their arriving personnel - ie, those who already have orders. Commands have to know in advance of the orders being written who is being considered for the job in order to involve themselves. Sometimes this happens (which kind of bri...

Re: IDC Talent Management

Personally not opposed to career tracks, and I think that could ultimately wind up happening once this kind of a system is introduced. However, based on the guidance I have read in (what OPNAV and NPC call) our "community brief" and in various board precepts, assignment diversity is (alleg...

IDC Talent Management

This thread is intended for as many IDC officers as possible. Recently received information related to a CRIC initiative to pilot a new way to detail IDC, and eventually, all Navy officers. I'll be attending a workshop in support of this effort and am trying to gather as many concerns/ideas and as m...

Re: O-5 Command Results -- Message to the IW Community?

Sounds like a great idea, hoping its not w/in the next 3 weeks, but after November 01. Lots going on, many places over next 25 days. With respect to the CRIC project, I'm attending that on 20 October @ ODU (IDC Talent Market Detailing Pilot Program Workshop). I think the idea is overdue, as today's ...

Re: O-5 Command Results -- Message to the IW Community?

1) Who/what determines the demand signal for our skills - is it us? 2) Understanding the eventuality of 18XX officers (1860) and the IDC idea, shouldn't we broaden the exposure at lower levels (O4/O5) to better prepare officers? (Navy already decided on generalists =IDC). 3) Current cross-detailing ...

Re: O-5 Command Results -- Message to the IW Community?

Very telling conversation below demonstrating our struggle to find unifying/common understanding of what we are doing. If SIGINT and EW are Cyber, I could infer cyberspace = electromagnetic spectrum = modulation space = ether. So, cyber is ether (using here as ~17th century scientific term for descr...

Re: RADM Train, Future N2/N6

A copy and paste from ~ January? A good thing, overall, I think. I am looking forward to observing how the IDC concept is maintained/adjusted over the next few years, particularly given the new N2/N6 is not a URL. Perhaps an IDC Flag can flesh out the IDC. We'll see.

Re: O-5 Command Results -- Message to the IW Community?

The tactical AQD piece you mentioned is an interesting topic. What is "operational" and why is it important to have an operational experience in one's career history? If someone serves on an afloat staff, the experience gained is understood by others who also have experienced it. That expe...

Re: O-5 Command Results -- Message to the IW Community?

I didn't say cyber was critical to being successful in command - I don't believe it, or any other specific experience, is. I did say it makes sense for the selectees to have held a cyber billet, particularly as ducks pick ducks (the ducks are more and more cyber oriented going forward, I think). We ...
