Maybe senior leadership does hear the gripes and read the bogs, but "lurking" isn't working. I feel confident that our OCM pushes up what he receives, but his role isn't to direct the commmunity. I think the problem is that no one is appropriately placed to direct the community. As IWOs, we do not h...

Part II

In retrospect, I think the whole NSGA disestablishment/NNWC was a really dumb idea. I am hard pressed to understand how the IW community, the IP community, the intel community, the fleet, the Navy, or DOD is better off as a result. Even if there is an answer, it is highly unlikely that the 'added va...

Part I

IW Logic - your last was very well stated. i sincerely appreciate your willingness to type what many of us are feeling. while i still believe the PCS afloat billets hold tremendous potential and should be integral to any IW path, their IW utility must be explained and advertised to the fleet (by the...

What you have to say makes a lot of sense (to me). for me, though, i think its a product of insecurity with regard to what our community is and where we are headed. the future is much too vauge and there isn't really an articulation of where we are headed. as a community clearly subordinate to NNWC'...

this will be sure to start the fire, but: i'm a big advocate of allowing unqualified IWOs to observe a board (as in one board). I think if the board is conducted properly, it will establish a reaonable expectation and at least some sense of the environment. i'm just not a big believer in the idea of...

I'm at NPS and I am finishing up both. For me, there is no contest. The Master's degree is far more important than JPME, as it is a much more significant accomplishment than just doing the requirements prescribed by the Navy. I like the JPME courses just fine, but they are all centered on how to be ...

i can certianly conceed on a warfare pin. if its a big for some, so be it. i still think its signal is psychological comfort for the one wearing it and the one glancing at it, but maybe that is important. however, this whole issue places the cart ahead of the horse. i think the warfare pin stuff is ...

bubblehead - i'm not disputing how you feel, but a couple years ago I deplyed with a CT who was on his 22nd LA class deployment. He had almost 7 years (absolute) underway and had deployed everywhere. Hard for me to see a scenario where a guy with that level of experience shouldn't be afforded to ear...

My personal feelling sort of coincides with the feeling conveyed by BTS. I think a warfare devide does nothing except perhaps provide some sort of psychological reassurance for validity. Also agree the "restricted line" concept is outmoded. I don't, however, think it will change. Seems we don't have...

So - if i read between the lines - I conclude that I should never have anything to do with NIOCs in Colorado if I want to maintain my applicability. Sure seems like narrow thinking here... Space is vital to many ongoing missions, but maybe if we divested ourselves of SIGINT we wouldn't need anything...
