Regional Studies at NPS

I've been hearing about Regional Studies billets at NPS opening for IW for a while now, but no one seems to know one way or another if that's been officially approved and billets alloted. Anyone here have any info about it? I saw a power point slide recently with some numbers, but there wasn't much ...

I think those experiences need to be better defined. What do you mean by detailing ourselves? I had a department head sit me down before I went to OCS to explain to me the difference between specializing and remaining a general IW officer and some of the advantages and disadvantages of doing each. ...

I've heard that too... in addition to the more traditional "9-12 months out" mentality. That's why I figured I'd ask and see what everyone thought. I had a nice sit-down with a prior enlisted LCDR from the War College while I was at OCS. He was on the "talk to the detailer asap if you want something...

Great advice from the webmaster! I'd also offer that you should address two things when communicating with the detailer... 1) How is your desired billet good for the Navy (e.g. My experiences at NIOC HI have familiarized me with Fleet IW/Cryptology and the Pacific AOR, which uniquely prepares me to...

Contacting Detailers

I'll toss the first stupid question out there ... new forums are fun. Anyway, my specific question is with regards to how early could I contact the detailer if I already know what I'm looking to do at my next tour. I've only come on board at my first command as an Ensign following my graduation from...

I found the above website a couple of months before I submitted my package and am still a (hopefully valuable) member of the community today. There's a great variety of folks who've been there, done that, with new individuals with absolutely no knowledge of the Navy or the OCS process. It armed me w...

Also, I was a CTI for 6.5 years before I made the jump to IWO, so if anyone has any specific questions about the rating, the process of attaining the rating, or some of the linguist-specific issues that crop up all the time, just ask.
