Re: Prior Enlisted, Why Do So Few Stay For Command?

As a prior E-6 who found out recently he was selected for O-4, I can honestly say that if you had asked me 5 or 7 years ago if I wanted to command I very likely would have said "no." Today, though? After having the opportunity to serve as part of ship's company on a DDG, and now on the sta...

Re: IW Name Change

I completely agree with all of your points, but I disagree the author made any monumental contributions to bridge the gap. We already know we have problems defining the IW mission (we had issues defining what we did as IWOs in a meaningful and lasting way for years). I would also argue specifying fu...

Re: IW Name Change

Just found an interesting article on CIMSEC lobbying to establish a connection(s) between Information Warfare structures/terms and more widely known Information Operations. Could this guy be on to something or just on something? http://cimsec.org/navy-information-warfare The article could be (unsur...

Re: FY-17 Zone Message

It isn't clear what is meant by ADM Rogers' comment here. Does this mean he doesn't think the organizations are ready for the split/separation? He remains of the mind that the organizations are not yet ready. As he stated publicly many times, "NSA doesn't need CYBERCOM, but CYBERCOM most defin...

Re: FY-17 Zone Message

The article, in part, states: Adm. Michael S. Rogers, the head of the NSA and CyberCom, told an audience at the Intelligence & National Security Summit last week that “I believe in the long run the right thing is to keep these two [organizations] aligned but to separate them.” But on Tuesday, Ro...

Re: FY-17 LCDR Selects

I think the most interesting part of the statistics that PERS pushed in the email to the community was the narrative preceding the stats. Other than IWCO qual and some tactical experience (not shocking), there are no smoking guns.

Re: Joint Progression vs. STEM Masters?

Has anyone attended the war college and spent the summer there? I understand that there are no classes, so I'm wondering what the school has you do. I doubt people are taking 45-60 days of leave in the summer. Thanks ahead of time! Yes. The school shuts down, leaving you the option to "work&qu...
