Re: NAVIFOR vs. FCC vs. C10F

I think the breakdowns over the last few posts have been fantastic, so thank you to 20yearman, COMEVIL, and Yoshi. A piece of this we're not really addressing because maybe because it's beyond the scope is how all of this translates to warfighting effects to the geographic combatant commanders. Does...

Re: NAVIFOR vs. FCC vs. C10F

My understanding (functional, not doctrinal): - C10F - similar to other Fleets, force provider to operational components in support of combatant commander requirements (this sentence is wrought with Farragut-style torpedoes... could spawn 234234 other posts just on this topic alone) - NAVIFOR / FCC ...

Re: IWC Synch

I agree that the CW Community (and Navy writ large) is delinquent in providing operational planning training; Army JO's grow up understanding the planning process and are experts at it. The lack of Op Planning training is a major reason on why we haven't fully integrated within the other operationa...

Re: IWC Synch

That's a fair point. Recoding would identify the "why" which would instill purpose and cause a better understanding for where we should better integrate communities inside IWC commands. We'd very likely get more out of such an approach than out of a "dis-associated Intel/IP/CWO/METOC...

Re: IWC Synch

I will take a more centerline approach to this discussion. I remember a few years ago when our community did away with the national security studies seats at NPS. At the time, the prevailing argument was we needed more seats in technical degrees and less in non-technical degrees because the idea of ...

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. (maybe that's the only funny part about all this?)

Re: First Federal Cyber Security Chief

Trying to keep politics and the election out of the conversation, but yes ... I think regardless of whoever is elected we (the big "We") will continue to have a federal level Cyber Security Chief. Both of the major candidates have discussed the importance of and necessity to maintain and ...

Re: Prior Enlisted, Why Do So Few Stay For Command?

As a prior E-6 who found out recently he was selected for O-4, I can honestly say that if you had asked me 5 or 7 years ago if I wanted to command I very likely would have said "no." Today, though? After having the opportunity to serve as part of ship's company on a DDG, and now on the sta...

Re: IW Name Change

I completely agree with all of your points, but I disagree the author made any monumental contributions to bridge the gap. We already know we have problems defining the IW mission (we had issues defining what we did as IWOs in a meaningful and lasting way for years). I would also argue specifying fu...

Re: IW Name Change

Just found an interesting article on CIMSEC lobbying to establish a connection(s) between Information Warfare structures/terms and more widely known Information Operations. Could this guy be on to something or just on something? http://cimsec.org/navy-information-warfare The article could be (unsur...
