Re: FY-19 NAVY ACTIVE-DUTY COMMANDER LINE SELECTIONS

I think the biggest barricade to BZ picks (for those qualified) is the FITREP system itself. Way too often we simply stack the Officers in line, based on when they are in zone, and hope for the best. Again, totally within the realm of the reporting senior, along with the right verbiage and scores t...

Re: FY-19 NAVY ACTIVE-DUTY COMMANDER LINE SELECTIONS

I tend to agree... one (or even two) data points a trend does not make. My main gripe with the system is it still is too inflexible to pull up talent early in any meaningful way. Even if we got through the board-isms that make it hard, there's still the statutory limits (not that I'd expect any com...

Re: FY-19 NAVY ACTIVE-DUTY COMMANDER LINE SELECTIONS

Understanding the policy provided by law, when a third of your selects are AZ, there is a problem somewhere. Is the quality of our officers declining at such a rate that we have to rely on who we rejected last year to perform 33% of our community business going forward? Or is it simply an organizat...

Re: FY-19 NAVY ACTIVE-DUTY COMMANDER LINE SELECTIONS

Biggest theme is: Removal of AZ/IZ designations generates many more AZ selections... ...many more. It is tougher to promote when IZ and BZ. Promotion dates move to the right on the career timeline. Not sure if this was the intent of removing AZ/IZ markers or an unintended consequence. Is this good ...

Re: FY-19 NAVY ACTIVE-DUTY COMMANDER LINE SELECTIONS

I also can't remember the last time the stats identified a new theme. They seem to be pretty much the same for almost every board.

Are you looking for something specific?

When is the last time the detailer sent out stats on the board?

Haven't seen those in a while...

I think he sent them out last year for the statutory boards. I haven't seen anything for admin boards (not that I'd expect to).

Re: Question on Career Path

Can start here... it might take some explaining, but I'm a little short on time at the moment. I can try circling back around a bit later, if that's cool.

Re: Significant changes to LDO for IWC

It's not this community - it's the navy. I'm curious to get your take - what do you think the Navy is trying to accomplish? Do you see a balancing act between wardroom competence and numbers management (I do) or do you feel we have sufficient wardroom competence to afford such a change? Competence ...

Re: Significant changes to LDO for IWC

It's unfortunate. Seems we've twisted the purpose of the LDO and now it's simply a supplemental accession method to ensure adequate officer capacity (commissioning for numbers value instead of content value). At some point, such decision making leads down a path of negative results. Considering the...

Re: Intel Officer Question

I'm aware that Intel officers perform all source analysis :) (well, some do... others just give excuses why they don't have the expertise required to do the kind of all source analysis the N3/J3 needs) I meant the role of AI and someone who can write and optimize AI / Machine Learning algorithms. I ...
