Re: Significant changes to LDO for IWC

It's not this community - it's the navy. I'm curious to get your take - what do you think the Navy is trying to accomplish? Do you see a balancing act between wardroom competence and numbers management (I do) or do you feel we have sufficient wardroom competence to afford such a change? Shortly aft...

Re: WHY WE NEED IO......

To the answer to the question of "how do we grow JOs into senior officers capable of assuming duties and responsibilities of an afloat IWC?" I think N39/J39 tours at Fleet Staff/COCOMs is one answer. I also think we need to value and desire more afloat tours. If you look at the rest of th...

Taking a JDAL billet with a (most likely) three year lockdown in a place is NOT/NOT the only way to get Joint credit. This was actually recently changed. DTM 17-005 reduced the hard and fast requirement from 36 months to 24 months. NPC just updated the JDAL MILPERSMAN indicating that the tour will ...

Re: O-5 Command Results Released?

Definitely not equivalent to being a URL CO. Does anyone really think our CO tours are/should be the equivalent of being a DDG or F/A-18 Squadron CO? What value is there in the comparison anyway? We all have a role to play and ours is largely providing expertise and leading the execution of niche c...

Re: O-6 results

I wonder if the IWC is going to take ownership of its functions, solidify, and standardize them. Sure, the CSG one star decides all, i get it. But, aren't we 'supporting' these functions, rather than leading them as 'operator's? I'm pretty sure senior IW leadership could take ownership, engage the ...

Re: O-6 results

So, where is the value added? We have created/shifted an O-6 IW Commander (IWC) billet, added a designated DIWC (senior CDR), but done literally nothing else. Is this how we get to success as an IW Afloat model by adding more titles? I think it's clear that snatching IWC away from the carrier CO an...

Re: CWO Selections

Looking for some advice on trying to lat transfer. I applied to the Jun 2017 board and did not get picked up. I am an NFO with not the best FITREPS(Long Story) but not sure why I missed the boat on this one. It could very well be my package, or perhaps the competition. As an NFO I couldn't apply un...

Re: Poll: cyber becomes it's own thing, cryppies become 183

My thoughts from January 2016 on this subject... More Than a Name Change That post evolved into the opportunity to help write the Cryptologic Community Vision. Has anyone seen the IWC Vision? IP Vision? Intel Vision? Oceano Vision? There is a Naval Oceanography strategy, signed in January 2017 by R...
