Re: Poll: cyber becomes it's own thing, cryppies become 183

I find it hard to believe that when the (then) IDC was formed all we needed to do was combine a few communities, put a fancy name on it, and call it a day. We haven't done any sort of community rework since the standup some xx (can't remember) years ago -- s-ame Officer designators, same enlisted ra...

Re: Poll: cyber becomes it's own thing, cryppies become 183

I completely agree with you on the "stomach for change"! I feel sorry for the amount of UIM(s) Sailors have changed out on their uniforms over the last few years! To be specific, I was thinking more about the 1810 community, however if we look at the "cyber community" as a whole...

Re: Poll: cyber becomes it's own thing, cryppies become 183

"Cyber community", the workplaces and people that work in the business of "cyber". I realize that is a pretty large grouping, but what I am getting at is a distinct break in the community iot allow for growth and a future development of a "cadre" that is exclusive to c...

Re: Poll: cyber becomes it's own thing, cryppies become 183

I'd like to see everyone's opinions on this. What if the cyber community peeled off to be it's own distinct designator, and the rest of us (sigint/IO), woke up as a piece of the 1830 designator? I'm a proud cryppie, but due to the wider break in our scope of work;think I could live with this. Thoug...

Re: IWDC Warfare Tactics Instructor Specialties Request

Forgive me for this next paragraph, I have a hard time with our portfolio verbiage. We have struggled SO MUCH to articulate what it is we do, the specific areas in which we are the primary operators. Indeed, "...we need to be seen as the experts" and what we bring/do right now doesn't suf...

Re: IWDC Warfare Tactics Instructor Specialties Request

They know MUCH more about our stuff (C5I, comms, intel) than we know about theirs; they are all over the IDC talking points (C2, BA, IF). Makes sense - what community in the Navy doesn't focus on those three things? These three pillars are start points. We can neatly bin everything we do underneath...

Re: IWDC Warfare Tactics Instructor Specialties Request

Pertinent article here... http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=92537 I would assert that we need to do this in a collaborative, "how we will fight in the future" sort of way. Warfare areas should be Assured C2, Battlespace Awareness, and Integrated Fires. Literally everything we...

Re: O-6 results

Good points. You're saying you can't dress up a turd by painting it in a better light or giving it a fancy name. Mostly. I think we already bring value and will continue to do so. Though we have much work to do. Meanwhile, leadership seems more focused on titles "seats at the table" than ...

Re: O-6 results

I would never assume we don't add value afloat - 365 days deployed on subs and another 2.5 years doing PCS afloat on a DDG gave me a firsthand view of the contributions CTs/CWs have. My comment wasn't in reference to your assumptions. It was in reference to the assumptions of our senior leadership,...

Re: O-6 results

So, is your question really if we're looking to get to success with an IW Afloat model or a CW Afloat model? It seems less like we're adding titles and more like our equities get a seat at the table with the perennial big boys. This assumes that we weren't already adding value afloat..which we were...
